"The teaching is so obvious. Take some real life examples in your life to understand the teaching. If you have done a mistake and you are not able to forgive yourself, we say that you are feeling guilty. You will keep brooding over it time and again. This happens because the thought that you should not have done, or you should have done something else rather than the mistake you have committed etc will keep haunting you. You are not able to face or accept the fact that you have done the mistake. This is nothing but guilt and suffering.
 
Now let us see what repentance is. Unlike guilt, repentance is accepting to yourself that you have done the mistake. You go into the other person's shoes and actually try to experience the other person's suffering - of what he / she is going through and genuinely feel for that person. This is not done for any result like - to impress the other person or others, to be free from suffering etc. but truly experience the other. When this happens, very naturally you will be free from the suffering you are undergoing which we call repentance. Tears, words like sorry or any other act are natural. They do not arise out of understanding,  habit or for the sake of doing it as a courtesy or to avoid guilt. Then, we also say, there is transformation in you. Keep watching within when you do a mistake- whether it is guilt or repentance. If you are aware, half the battle is won by you. The other half battle will be won naturally by the Divine.
